About the Role

Improves Maintenance Team productivity and quality through hands-on supervisory direction of Maintenance Technicians. Collaborates with the Maintenance Manager and MRO team for repairs and replacements of Plant assets, including Facility systems, equipment, and production equipment. Ensures compliance and builds processes and procedures for Plant utilities and assets. Promotes reliability-minded approaches, Best Practices maintenance, and continuous improvement programs like 5S. Fosters team cohesiveness and a collaborative mindset within and outside the department. Candidate must be willing to help build and apply Reliability Centered Maintenance techniques and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to all safety policies/procedures and holds others accountable.
  • Provides long-term solutions and day-to-day leadership for maintenance employees, including problem analysis, time/project management, and collaboration with Planner/Scheduler on job planning and KPIs.
  • Directs and instructs Maintenance teams, providing feedback and communicating policy or procedure changes.
  • Ensures proper training for new hires and existing employees, coordinating all new employee activities and training related to the shift.
  • Assists Maintenance Manager in administrative tasks, planning, work-flow analysis, and ensures timely and accurate submission of weekly/daily reports and checklists.
  • Applies mechanical and electrical experience in manufacturing environments (preferably food/meat production) to troubleshoot and repair equipment, limiting downtime.
  • Takes ownership of personal growth and professional development by soliciting feedback and participating in departmental/plant initiatives.
  • Coaches, mentors, appraises performance, rewards, and disciplines employees, addressing complaints to resolve problems.
  • Creates and nurtures relationships with internal/external customers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of experience in an industrial maintenance capacity.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in industrial refrigeration, competent in systems, processes, and compliance requirements.
  • Capable of building infrastructure to grow, develop, and sustain the Maintenance team, including Ammonia and Wastewater Plants, systems, and associated utilities.
  • Food or meat processing plant experience preferred, with knowledge of GMP and food manufacturing best practices.
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical and electrical systems at the facility, equipment, and component levels.
  • Basic hydraulics/pneumatics experience; ability to read/understand schematics.
  • Thorough knowledge of maintenance systems and work order processes; able to lead problem-solving and troubleshooting for high-level process issues.
  • PC literate with knowledge of Word, Excel, and CMMS programs.
  • Strong planning, priority-setting, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills (conflict resolution, facilitation, change management, decision-making, empowerment, and delegation).
  • Experience in a fast-paced, cold, wet production environment.
  • Mandatory ability to speak, understand, read, and write in English.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in physically demanding, tight-fitting, and noisy environments with a wide temperature range.
  • Approximately 70% floor time and 30% office time.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to use ladders, scissors and aerial lifts, and climb stairs.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but sometimes very loud. Space temperatures may range from below freezing to triple digits.

Schedule

This role will work a 2-2-3 schedule, rotating with the team to provide development and mentorship opportunities. Additional days or scheduling changes may occur due to plant needs, coverage, or projects.
