About the Role
This position leads all labor-relations activities for the plant, partners with plant leadership on employee-related issues, ensures compliance with labor laws, and drives the execution of short- and long-term HR objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in collective-bargaining negotiations; draft, review, and administer labor contracts in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Provide training, communication, and interpretation of all contract elements to employees at every level.
- Monitor employee and union performance; investigate and resolve labor disputes, grievances, and complaints.
- Develop and implement labor-relations strategies and policies that align with the organization’s goals and values; stay informed on labor-market trends.
- Ensure labor contracts comply with all applicable laws; train and guide managers on contract interpretation and application.
- Coach employees, managers, and leadership on staffing, performance management, employee development, and employee relations.
- Advise and participate in employee and management counseling regarding company policies, legal requirements, performance, discipline, and benefits.
- Balance employee and business interests while managing complex organizational and personnel issues.
- Build and maintain relationships with local union leadership and plant union representatives.
- Participate in hourly recruiting activities, including diversity, equity, and inclusion hiring, employee tracking, and interviewing.
- Act as a trusted advisor to organizational leaders; provide input into HR strategies and tactics related to people and talent.
- Utilize internal HRIS and timekeeping systems to monitor daily operational activities.
- Establish credibility at all organizational levels by maintaining effective professional relationships.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, business administration, or a related field.
- 10+ years of human-resources and labor-relations experience in a unionized setting.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities to interpret and apply complex labor laws, regulations, and contracts.
- Extensive knowledge of labor-relations principles, practices, and trends.
- Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee multiple projects and initiatives.
- Comprehensive understanding of labor law and the ability to foster a positive work environment.
- Proficient understanding and application of federal and state laws, including EEOC, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, COBRA, and NLRB.
