As a Plant Engineer, you will execute projects tied to the site’s continuous improvement and growth initiatives, handling moderately complex engineering projects from design to implementation while supporting reliability and providing technical guidance to facility maintenance personnel.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for manufacturing activities including plant layout, process mapping, engineering calculations, and maintenance projects.
• Conduct asset investigations and prepare justifications for new equipment or alternate processes.
• Originate capital appropriation requests for new equipment or processes.
• Promote and participate in Lean projects and activities.
• Establish process work instructions for production processes.
• Assist operations to improve productivity, efficiency, and quality through continuous improvement initiatives.
• Initiate, lead, and execute projects supporting the site’s continuous improvement initiatives.
• Establish and maintain schedules for completing approved projects.
• Develop and coordinate material handling methods and devices for finished products and raw materials.
• Develop and provide support on reports and forms to measure manufacturing performance.
• Keep abreast of the latest developments in manufacturing process technology and make recommendations.
• Provide and obtain cost estimates for subcontract activities.
• Assist operations with engineering data on ergonomic issues or safety concerns.
• Maintain knowledge of safety regulations for the industry and apply Valmont safety guidelines.
• Support facility maintenance by providing technical support on critical assets (e.g., boilers, furnaces, crane systems, baghouses).

This position reports to the Site General Manager with dotted-line support to the NA Coatings Engineering Director and requires up to 10% travel (domestic/international), including overnight stays.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively alone and as part of a team across various functional areas.
• Demonstrated accuracy in fast-paced environments.
• Ability to analyze, develop, evaluate, and implement solutions.
• Experience with Lean methodology and continuous improvement principles.
• Passion, integrity, and drive to excel.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing/industrial engineering position.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD/SolidWorks, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook).
• Experience with material handling equipment (overhead cranes, forklifts), product finishing processes (painting, galvanizing, plating), and PLC troubleshooting/programming.
• Proficiency in Lean principles (5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Six Sigma, Standardized Work).

Working Environment

Approximately 65% of the role is in an office environment, while 35% is in production areas exposed to welding smoke, noise, seasonal temperature changes, dirt, oil, and coolant. Extended hours may be required to meet business demands. Travel accounts for about 5% of the role, including domestic and international trips.
