Negotiates favorable terms, volume discounts and long-term contracts with suppliers and prepares and processes requisitions and purchase orders for the procurement of goods, services and supplies for customer-related business processes or for internal use as a generalist or in a combination of Purchasing Disciplines A Production Buyer supports the operational workflow of the plant by coordinating inventory of materials in alignment with the production planned and weekly schedules. This role ensures that materials are aligned with production schedules as well as converting the monthly production plan into daily and weekly schedule based on incoming sales orders vs. monthly forecast. This role works collaboratively across the organization while prioritizing production and inbound components. Located at our Florence, Kentucky site, this role reports to the Planning Manager and works with other Production Planners and Buyers. Position Responsibilities A Production Buyer is responsible for but not limited to the following: Reviews MRP messages and generates purchase orders in accordance with requirementsCoordinates deliveries on time to the plant based on schedule requirements using Transportation Portal or direct with the vendor Maintains Item master parameters Information such as lead time, Minimum order, & safety stock for the respective materials Provides effective dates for all material changes / bluebooks for existing materials and new productsManages inventory issues, schedule changes, and cancellations to reduced floor disruptionsMonitors Inventory levels for Opportunities to revise purchase Plan/ Open POs to avoid excess inventory. Issues IDRs for respective write off for expired or discontinued materialsWorks closely with the Quality department to follow up with vendors on quality issuesWork with Inventory Clerk on any vendor return processing for creditsManages subcontracting purchases with 3rd party vendorWorks with QA on required samples for lab batchingReviews all AP Issues / vendor payment 3-way match Position Requirements Associate’s degree in Supply Chain or business-related field or equivalent work experienceAt least 3 years of related work experience in a manufacturing environmentProficient in Microsoft Office, MPR and SAPHighly Preferred – APIC certification Essential Position Functions A Production Buyer is required to perform the following essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation: Follow all safety requirements including wearing the appropriate PPE (contact lenses prohibited on the production floor)Sits in front of a computer in an office setting for prolonged periods of timeMoves around production floor as needed Lifts up to 25 pounds Strong quantitative ability and comfort with data driven decision processesPossesses excellent interpersonal, written & verbal communication skillsDemonstrates excellent organizational, prioritization & planning skills with close attention to detailAccommodates shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment as well as excellent problem-solving skills focusing on continuous improvementWork on different times/ shifts based on business needs has context menu We understand that candidates will not meet every single desired qualification.
