About the Role

Join the clean energy revolution as a Planning Specialist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and help build a better tomorrow. In this role, you’ll serve as the single point of contact (SPOC) responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and assigning all projects to the appropriate department. You will also check, track, and follow up on spreadsheets for program work, contributing to efforts that power our planet, reduce carbon emissions, and create cleaner air for everyone.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare construction plans, drawings, and/or circuit maps; design electrical distribution plans, identifying necessary resources, providing cost estimates, and ensuring compliance with electrical designs, policies, procedures, rules, rates, and completion dates.
  • Perform calculations relevant to design using the latest SCE standards and/or request studies through Engineering when necessary.
  • Interact with a diverse customer base to meet electrical design needs, ensuring successful outcomes for both the customer and SCE on assigned or requested projects.
  • Participate in small to medium-sized residential, commercial, and industrial projects; assist in determining scope of work, method of service, and construction methods for Distribution overhead and underground facilities; manage work orders/projects and maintain current understanding of industry practices and standards.
  • Provide technical support to licensing and certification proceedings related to new distribution/transmission lines and substation sites.
  • Stay up to date on current industry practices, standards, and customer needs.
  • Identify environmental requirements and coordinate required project components with other departments, customers, governmental bodies, and various external sources.
  • Support project drawings and budget by monitoring internal and external customer timelines and expectations.
  • Manage multiple projects using project management principles, tools, and techniques effectively under tight time constraints, shifting priorities, and with minimal supervision; manage project risks, resolve issues, and address escalations impacting project scope, timeline, and budget (work order pricing).
  • Perform field inspections to gather data relevant to the planning and development review process and to verify compliance with approved plans.
  • Ensure the protection of all physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and properly access and manage private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other highly sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Requirements

  • One or more years of experience in Electrical Utility Distribution/Transmission/Telecommunication Design, Distribution/Transmission/Telecommunication Line Construction, or an Engineering discipline.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
  • Experience with design tools such as CAD, GIS, or similar systems.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience in customer service, project coordination, or similar support roles.
  • Training or education applying technical information (engineering, pole loading, drafting, construction, mapping, math, science, IT).
  • Ability to read or create simple distribution or technical drawings.
  • Ability to adapt to competing priorities while maintaining accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams (clients, peers, management, agencies).
  • Completion of a Planner Utility Certification Program.
  • Experience managing customer or stakeholder interactions in a technical, construction, or utility environment, including providing clear information, addressing inquiries, and coordinating solutions.

Schedule

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility or in the field location.
  • Up to 50% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
  • The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
