Regular, full-time position in the Department of Planning & Engineering.
About the role
Under the general supervision of the Director of Planning and Engineering, the Zoning Officer will serve as an administrative officer for the Zoning Board.
Responsibilities
- Performing technical and professional work in the interpretation, drafting, and enforcement of Township zoning laws, ordinances, rules, Master Plan elements, and regulations.
- Reviewing and signing off on building permits for zoning compliance and licenses for the Clerk’s office.
- Issuing Zoning permits for fences, sheds, impervious surfaces, and signs.
- Responding to letters of intent and OPRA requests.
- Handling inquiries from the public on development and zoning matters.
- Attending evening Zoning Board Meetings.
- Performing related work as required.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of municipal zoning, site planning, and land use procedures.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and other regulations governing land use and zoning.
- Knowledge of legal procedures related to the enforcement of zoning laws and ordinances.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with township personnel and the public.
- Ability to provide excellent communication and conflict resolution skills to assist the public in a courteous and effective manner.
Qualifications
- Two years of municipal zoning experience for applicants with a Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning or related field; or
- Four years of municipal zoning experience for applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or related field.
