Planner IV
About the role
Leads aspects of internal and external coordination with project team members, including other discipline areas involved with the project.
Develops and maintains client meetings and interactions.
Conducts or directs research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning, and formulates recommendations.
Develops conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects.
Ledds tasks under general direction related to the preparation and production of technical plans, studies, written reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.
Responsible for significant portions of presentations and public facilitation.
Covers with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.
Aids in directing teams for small or medium sized tasks for projects.
Mentors and provides direction on the work of less experienced staff.
Aids in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals and responses to RFP’s for projects.
Writes major sections of and leads production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects. Also coordinates and synthesizes the contributions of others.
Responsibilities
- Research data sources, gathers data, and conducts analysis of data for use in projects.
- Develops planning and analysis strategies using tools such as GIS, traffic, or safety software to manipulate data, assess scenarios, and perform project analysis.
- Leads planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field and 6 years related professional experience,
- or
- Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field and 5 yrs of relevant experience.

- Remains aware of new software tools available and stays current with the latest industry tools.
- Integrates different sources of data to provide findings and recommendations to more experienced staff to move the project forward and determine solutions.
- Provides direction to less experienced staff.
- Develops a research plan and supervises the research and technical analysis of less experienced staff.
- Leads the preparation of the report by writing portions of the report and reviewing and incorporating materials from others.
- Manages a portion of the agenda by leading the discussion of an agenda item.
Skills

Skills Preferred
- Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE), American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP), Professional Transportation Planner (PTP), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Envision, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP).
