About the Role

Performs professional work in urban planning: program and project planning activities which impact affordable housing and community development. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data, formulating and recommending plans and programs relevant to housing conditions and needs, planning and implementing the City’s housing policy and development initiatives, developing policies and plans, evaluating development proposals and funding requests, soliciting community input, and providing development oversight. Prepares Environmental Reviews and State and Federal mandated performance evaluations of the City’s housing programs and activities. Work is performed under the direction of the Housing Initiative Manager and is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted, and results obtained.

Pay

Starting salary ranges by level:

  • Planner I: $26.22 - $33.44 hourly, depending on qualifications
  • Planner II: $29.41 - $37.51 hourly, depending on qualifications
  • Planner III: $30.06 - $39.83 hourly, depending on qualifications

Requirements

  • Valid Florida Driver's License required within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, or comparable design software preferred.

Qualifications

Planner I

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field and six (6) months of experience in urban planning or related area required.
  • Experience in housing and grant management preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in related field desired.

Planner II

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field and two (2) years of urban planning or related experience required.
  • Experience in housing and grant management preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in related field and six (6) months of related experience desired.

Planner III

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field and four (4) years of urban planning or related experience required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field is acceptable with AICP certification.
  • Experience in housing and grant management preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in related field and two (2) years of urban planning or related experience desired.
  • AIA, ASLA, or AICP Certification preferred.

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:

  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
  • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
  • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
