About the Role
Review a variety of construction plans, agreements, proposals, and specifications for compliance with established codes, regulations, and ordinances. Inspect project sites for future construction work and perform technical tasks related to assigned responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform plan checking activities; examine construction plans, proposals, agreements, and specifications for compliance with established codes, regulations, and ordinances; approve plans as needed.
- Perform on-site inspections for compliance with approved plans, specifications, and standards; provide information to contractors and architects in interpreting applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Coordinate plan checking activities with other departments; transmit plans, comments, and specifications to appropriate departments, divisions, or outside consultants.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public regarding construction projects; provide information within the assigned area.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends in plans examination and code compliance.
- Establish and maintain a system of log sheets and files to track the current status of projects; file approved plans, agreements, and specifications.
- Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in construction technology.
- Five (5) years of experience in any combination of the following areas: construction plan checking, building construction, construction contract management, or right-of-way regulations for permitting requirements.
Working Conditions
- Office and field environment; travel from site to site.
- Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
