Placement Specialist - Marine
Marsh is seeking candidates for the Placement Specialist position in our Seattle, Houston, New York City, or Chicago office. This is a hybrid role requiring at least three days a week in the office.
About the role
Build and maintain relationships with underwriters while placing sophisticated insurance programs. Identify the need for new products and develop innovative solutions for clients. Complete policy management activities, deliver reviewed policies to clients, and address client inquiries. Provide technical expertise in the delivery and presentation of marine portions of RFPs.
Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor the insured’s placement strategy using risk expertise and industry knowledge to develop solutions for complex client needs.
- Develop go-to-market strategies and provide input on pricing to support client retention and new business production.
- Guide strong working relations with carriers and underwriters to create innovative approaches for unique client needs.
- Audit and finalize commission structures with underwriters in accordance with client direction, Marsh Commission Yield Statements, and Facility agreements.
- Stay informed about changing insurance and risk market conditions, and communicate major developments affecting coverage to client teams, clients, and carriers.
- Contribute advanced knowledge to the firm’s product lines through active participation in internal networks.
- Devise new products and innovative solutions addressing complex client needs.
- Lead complex placement and technical support activities on large accounts, ensuring procedural compliance, reviewing data, updating renewal exhibits, and maintaining accurate placement system entries.
- Consult management on highly complex client issues or trends through clear and concise communication.
- Submit coverage specifications, obtain quotes from carriers, ensure coverage is bound, and verify the accuracy of bound programs.
- Analyze quotes from carriers and provide recommendations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of industry experience.
- Commercial Brokerage and/or Underwriting experience, preferably in marine lines of coverage.
- P&C license required, or ability to obtain one.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Pay
The applicable base salary range for this role is $92,500 to $197,100. The base pay offered will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and applicable minimum wage requirements. This position may also be eligible for performance-based incentives.
Schedule
Hybrid role requiring at least three days per week in the office. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week for full-team in-person collaboration.
