Piping Superintendent

About the Role
In this role, you will monitor and organize subcontractor planning, safety, quality, and technical activities on a complex project with multiple stakeholders’ involvement, through the coordination and instruction of subcontractor’s management staff. Your field supervision will help ensure operations are planned to coincide with overall established schedules and that work methods are planned and executed safely.
Project Overview
Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. We are partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline. Bechtel Manufacturing & Technology, Inc. offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the semiconductor manufacturing, electric vehicle, and data center markets.
Responsibilities
- Monitors and organizes subcontractor activities, through coordination and instruction of subcontractor’s management staff within the area of responsibility.
- Monitors subcontractor construction schedules, resource charts, and material and equipment requirements.
- Reviews subcontractor construction methods, schedules, manning charts, and material and equipment requirements.
- Coordinates the construction operations impact on external interfaces to ensure they coincide with the overall established schedules.
- Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements.
- Enforces policies, procedures, and related work rules as established by field construction management.
- Supports Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
- Coordinates engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and Craft Professionals.
- Coordinates with Design on constructability issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
Skills
- Knowledge of piping construction operations including fabrication, installation, fit-up, and spool management across carbon steel, stainless steel, and specialty alloy systems.
- Knowledge of applicable piping codes and standards (ASME B31.1, B31.3, AWWA, or project-specific specifications).
- Knowledge of welding processes, welder qualification requirements, and NDE/NDT methods applicable to piping systems.
- Knowledge of hydrostatic and pneumatic testing procedures, test package preparation, and system turnover/completion processes.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, piping plans, and associated specifications.
- Knowledge of piping material management including spool tracking, material receipt and verification, and surplus control.
- Knowledge of Bechtel's Zero Accident Philosophy.
- Knowledge of the Project ES&H Handbook, the Supervisors ES&H Manual, the Project Safety Management Plan, and the Bechtel Core Processes.
- Knowledge of Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs).
- Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.
- Computer literate in project systems and standard applications in accordance with current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards.
- Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
- Knowledge of the use of subcontracts, and the contractor and subcontractor's responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
- Experience working with, supervising, and administering subcontractors and/or Direct Hire workforce.
