Piping Lead

About the Role

You will be responsible for performing all aspects of complete designs of mechanical/piping assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This position assists in the design of larger and more complex mechanical/piping assignments under general supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize department design and drafting standards.
  • Understand project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.
  • Develop the design and drafting of moderately complex piping drawings using P&IDs, GA’s, piping specifications, and equipment drawings.
  • Perform field design work to assess current conditions, locate new systems, communicate with client personnel, and assist in construction.
  • Prepare material take-offs from piping drawings.
  • Plan and manage site design activities for optimal results.
  • Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly.
  • Provide on-site assistance during startup.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting (required).
  • 4+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design.

Skills

  • Knowledge and application of piping materials, supports, and restraints.
  • Design of less complex process and utility piping systems.
  • Flexibility analysis of piping systems.
  • Manual valve sizing, use, and application.
  • Drafting of P&IDs and GA’s.
  • Design of piping for specific equipment and inline instrumentation (e.g., pump suctions/discharges, tanks, control valve stations).
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Ability to create accurate mechanical/piping installation documents from vendor equipment drawings.
  • Understanding of workflow/information flow between disciplines and schedule constraints for mechanical/piping deliverables.
  • Ability to accurately estimate task completion.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in virtual teams and support cross-divisional relationships.
