We are seeking a Piping Designer to work on projects of varying size and complexity. This position can be based within 50 miles of Billings, MT or Salt Lake City, UT.

This is a hybrid role based out of our Ferndale, WA office, with an expectation to be in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday–Thursday). Periodic travel to local clients will be required, with minimal travel outside the area (less than 10%).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare piping layouts, isometrics, and support details using CAD tools (e.g., CADWorx).
  • Interpret and apply P&IDs, plot plans, tie-in lists, and piping specifications.
  • Assist in design efforts for greenfield and brownfield projects in oil & gas, mining, food & beverage, and power sectors.
  • Coordinate with design lead and other disciplines to resolve design issues and maintain project schedules.
  • Provide on-site support during construction phases, including troubleshooting and design adjustments.
  • Utilize 3D laser scanning for accurate modeling and tie-in planning.
  • Collaborate with vendors, clients, and project management to manage budgets and schedules.
  • Assist in generating piping isometrics and material take-offs (MTOs).

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in Piping Design.
  • Associate degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design or equivalent technical training.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, CADWorx, Navisworks, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Experience assisting in field assignments, including gathering dimensional data and photographic documentation.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes, standards, and design practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to local clients (minimal out-of-area travel expected, less than 10%).

Industry Requirements

  • HHFT Safety Training and current card or ability to obtain.
  • Client Safety Training and current badge or ability to obtain.
  • TWIC Certification and current card or ability to obtain (must be obtained prior to start date).
  • Background screening including previous employment, education, criminal history, and driving record verification.
  • Participation in random drug and alcohol programs.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Ability to be badged and maintain a badge for safety-sensitive positions and/or process safety management governed facilities.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience inputting and managing piping specifications within the CADWorx environment.
  • Knowledge of creating, configuring, and modifying Isogen borders and setup files.
  • Experience performing 3D laser scanning activities in the field.
  • Proficiency with CADWorx Equipment and CADWorx Support Modeler.
  • Experience using Autodesk (or equivalent) programs: AutoCAD, Navisworks, Vault.
  • Experience with CADWorx Plant and Equipment (or equivalent) 3D piping software.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The role involves occasional standing, walking, sitting, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, talking, and hearing. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Overtime may be necessary, including weekdays and weekends. Work will be performed at client sites, production facilities, or industrial/construction job sites, with conditions varying as described.

Pay

$39–46/hour. Anticipated annual salary may vary based on skills, experience, qualifications, and internal peer equity.
