Piping Designer
About the role
Join a growing engineering team supporting large-scale, high-impact infrastructure projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on advanced facility and utility systems, including chilled water piping for mission-critical environments. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Piping Designer who thrives in a collaborative setting and enjoys contributing throughout the full project lifecycle, from design and coordination through construction support.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed piping system designs using CADWorx and related design tools.
- Interpret P&IDs, project specifications, and engineering requirements to produce accurate design deliverables.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary designs and perform clash detection using industry-standard coordination software.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, clients, contractors, and vendors to ensure project success.
- Support projects across multiple office locations and project teams.
- Monitor project scope, identify potential design risks, and assist with developing effective solutions.
- Provide construction-phase support, including field verification, responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and site observations.
- Help drive project execution while maintaining quality, schedule, and design standards.
Requirements
- 5+ years of piping design experience within the A/E, industrial, manufacturing, process, or related engineering industries.
- Required experience with CADWorx.
- Experience coordinating integrated designs utilizing tools such as Navisworks or similar coordination software.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, engineering drawings, and project specifications.
- Experience designing industrial process, utility, or facility piping systems.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated project ownership and ability to follow projects through completion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Associate's degree preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Ability to perform occasional site visits and navigate industrial facilities, including stairs and elevated platforms when required.
- Experience supporting construction administration activities is a plus.
Location: Knoxville, TN (Onsite during contract period; hybrid flexibility available upon direct hire)
Pay Range: $50 - $65/hour DOE (Per diem available for qualified non-local candidates)
Work Hours: Monday-Thursday 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Friday 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM (Flexible)
Type of Employment: Contract-to-Hire (6 months). Also open to candidates seeking a contract-only assignment.
