About the role

This role is a key contributor in delivering high-quality design solutions for power and energy projects. You will implement assignments delegated by the Group Supervisor, collaborate closely with drafters, designers, engineers, and support personnel, and ensure that all project objectives, schedules, and quality standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Implement assignments and activities delegated by the Group Supervisor in accordance with project objectives and discipline standards.
  • Execute project goals by working closely with drafters, designers, engineers, and support personnel to plan, schedule, and deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Manage the completion of all required deliverables, including construction drawings, design studies, and bills of materials, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Schedule work assignments and provide guidance, training, and assistance to designers, checkers, and drafters on small to medium-sized projects.
  • Under the direction of the Group Supervisor, manage a defined segment of a project, ensuring progress aligns with scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with client representatives and construction personnel to ensure client input and job requirements are clearly understood, addressed, and implemented in line with contractual obligations.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction estimates, including supporting documentation required for project planning and execution.
  • Assist in estimating project design and drafting manpower requirements to support resource planning and scheduling.
  • Review and provide final approval of drawings to confirm compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and established discipline standards.
  • Maintain engineering document indices and drafting progress reports for assigned projects to support tracking and reporting.
  • Confirm that all vendor shop drawings are properly checked and approved, ensuring alignment with project design and specifications.
  • Demonstrate effective use of various CADD software applications according to project requirements and standards.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned to support successful project execution.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or associate degree that includes adequate drafting coursework.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of piping design experience within the power or energy and chemicals industry.
  • Strong understanding of piping design principles and plant layout, including P&ID and 3D design workflows.
  • Overall understanding of technical disciplines involved in power and energy projects and how they integrate during project execution.
  • Strong CAD skills with experience in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit, and willingness to learn additional platforms as required.
  • Proficiency with Aveva E3D software, with experience in AVEVA E3D or PDMS considered essential.
  • Background in chemical, refinery, power, or LNG facilities and related industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in CADWorx, Navisworks, SmartPlant, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize various CADD software applications according to project requirements.
  • Strong supervision skills with the ability to mentor, lead, train, and motivate team members to produce quality work.
  • Research skills, analytical and creative problem-solving skills, and strong questioning and feedback abilities.
  • Solid project and time management skills, including the ability to organize and prioritize work independently.
  • Ability to coordinate a variety of tasks with strong attention to detail and effectively manage conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information and ideas to team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate in person, via telephone and email, and utilize arm and hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, and multi-limb coordination as required for design work.
  • Capability to safely lift, carry, and move objects as needed in support of project activities.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience working on power generation plant design projects, including new facilities developed from the ground up.
  • Familiarity with Advanced Work Packages (AWP) and plant 3D design methodologies.
  • Experience with Autodesk or Bentley structural packages to support integrated design workflows.
  • Experience coordinating with clients and construction personnel in industrial project environments.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Adaptability to fast-paced project environments and evolving priorities.
  • Interest in contributing to an organization that is expanding its market share and adding new projects in the power industry.

Work Environment

This role is primarily based in a general office environment that operates at a fast pace, with frequent collaboration across engineering and design disciplines. You will work extensively with computer-aided design tools and office productivity software. At times, you may be required to visit industrial locations such as power plants, refineries, or similar facilities where noise levels range from moderate to high. These job sites may include light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, construction materials, communication equipment and tools, and personnel engaged in standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise sources may include bells, whistles, and other industrial sounds. The work environment emphasizes safety, professional conduct, and effective communication while supporting complex power generation and energy projects from concept through completion.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.

This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX, and is fully onsite.
