About the role
Kleinfelder, a Forbes' Top Employer for Engineers in North America, is seeking a Pipeline Engineer to join our Detroit, MI office. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, 4-8 years of relevant experience, and a Professional Engineer (PE) certification. The role involves developing and applying engineering techniques, preparing pipeline designs, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Prepare pipeline designs, including calculations, drawings, profiles, details, layouts, and studies from field inspections, preliminary sketches, specifications, and instructions.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform pipeline projects ranging in size and complexity from small to large, including both distribution and transmission type projects.
- Acquire and analyze data using appropriate standard quantitative methods, conduct gas system network and hydraulic analyses, prepare construction specification and bid packages, and conduct alternative/feasibility studies.
- Create status reports detailing task completion, progress, challenges, and solutions, and work closely with other workgroups at clients' places of business and Kleinfelder offices.
- Coordinate various inspection and testing methods, gather data, analyze, and report findings, and manage internal resources and subcontractors.
- Assign tasks to and coordinate with drafting and administrative staff, assign tasks to and coordinate work of Associate Engineers and technicians or administrative staff within team, provide guidance, instruction, and coaching to entry-level and other Engineers, and assist in determining schedule & budget requirements.
- Support business development and marketing initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
- 4 - 8 years relevant experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred
- Working knowledge of CAD and GIS software
- Technical communication skills
- Proficient use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
- Utility business understanding
- Valid Driver's license
- Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations Title 42 Part 192
