About the role

Tenstreet is a fast-growing, market-dominating SaaS-based solutions provider to the trucking industry. The Infrastructure team manages a highly scalable and secure environment, handling everything from hardware to cloud services.

Responsibilities

  • On premises and cloud server and service administration, including designing, building, monitoring, and securing various Linux virtual servers and containers.
  • Managing NetApp storage tier and other file servers.
  • Using tools such as Ansible Automation Platform to automate routine activities.
  • Working with development and product teams to ensure infrastructure scalability and business needs.
  • Using monitoring and analysis tools like Datadog and Wazuh IDS for system performance metrics.
  • Implementing and overseeing information security controls across various operating environments.
  • Understanding and managing network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, and third-party services like Cloudflare for WAF/DDoS.

Broad responsibilities

  • Building and supporting resilient and scalable systems achieving high availability.
  • Managing environmental and architectural changes while maximizing implementation speed without compromising security or functionality.
  • Identifying and addressing technological and procedural barriers to Tenstreet's effectiveness, devising solutions to improve the company's operations.
  • Communicating technical topics and concerns to diverse audiences internally and externally.
  • Administering a variety of applications and services for both internal and external users.
  • Balancing the need to "keep things running" with system enhancements and new strategic initiatives.
  • Mentoring or training other team members and colleagues from other roles.
  • Participating in on-call rotations.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving production issues (hardware/software/applications).

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, even those unrelated to current knowledge.
  • Sound decision-making and teamwork skills.
  • At least 3-5 years' experience in Linux systems administration, particularly in a DevOps context.
  • Experience with common applications and protocols such as Apache, MySQL, NFS, Squid, Redis, Docker, SSH, DNS, LDAP, SMTP, etc.
  • Software development and scripting experience, preferably in PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.
  • Problem-solving skills, asking the right questions and gathering data to take appropriate action.
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools, especially Ansible.
  • A thorough understanding of networking concepts, including OSI model, NAT, VLANs, packet filtering, application proxies, etc.
  • Comfortable working independently, solving problems, and thinking critically.
  • Collaborative and able to work well with others, learning to disagree, compromise, and build new things with a team.
  • Able to handle multiple projects with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communicator, able to explain complex processes and problems clearly and naturally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness to deploy automated solutions to reduce manual effort.
