About the role

HF Sinclair Midstream located in Artesia, NM is seeking a Pipeline Controller In Training. The basic function is to learn the skills necessary to monitor and control the flow of products through a pipeline system. They are responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of products from one location to another.

Job Duties

  • Works a 12-hour Dupont Schedule, which includes rotating shifts from nights to days, weekends, and holidays
  • Learns and understands the essentials of pipeline operations, including safety protocols, system controls, and emergency response procedures
  • Assists in monitoring pipeline operations through a computerized control system, identifying and addressing any abnormalities or deviations in the pipeline operations
  • Collaborates with experienced Pipeline Controllers and supervisors to gain knowledge and hands-on experience in pipeline operations
  • Assists in responding to alarms and emergency situations, following established protocols to mitigate risks and minimize downtime
  • Communicates effectively with field personnel, maintenance teams, and other stakeholders to coordinate activities and ensure smooth operations
  • Documents and maintains accurate records of pipeline operations, including shift reports, maintenance logs, and incident reports
  • Stays updated with industry regulations, best practices, and emerging technologies in pipeline operations
  • Participates in training programs and workshops provided by the company to develop expertise in pipeline operations
  • Completes internet-based training as assigned by the training department
  • Completes a review board and training simulator for Operator Qualification

Experience

  • A minimum of five years of general work experience or may substitute experience for a two year technical degree (Associates Degree in a technical field)
  • PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience in the military, experience as a machine operator in manufacturing, pipeline controller, or field technician is preferred

Education Level

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL: Associates or Bachelors Degree in a technical field

Required Skills

  • Must complete all required certifications, tests, and training to know and become competent in the Companys tasks and duties of a qualified pipeline controller under direct supervision while completing classroom and CBT training and expectations within a six to eight month period
  • The ability to perform mathematical calculations at a basic level and computer skills, mechanically inclined; entry knowledge, understanding and ability to comply with all Federal, State, Local, and Company regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • The ability to multitask in a fast paced environment and integrate new processes quickly and efficiently and follow instructions; self-motivated and ability to make quick decisions as needed
  • The ability to read and write and the ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication skills
