PIPEFITTER SUPERINTENDENT I

About the Role

Responsible for coordination, installation, and repair of piping and equipment for mechanical systems. This role involves reading and understanding blueprints, effective communication with all job-site personnel including sub-contractors, and working collaboratively with other departments and divisions. The position requires professional representation of TP Mechanical Contractors, the ability to accept direction, and the capability to lead and delegate work.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all on-site activity regarding manpower, materials, and scheduling.
• Serve as the point of contact for the customer, general contractor, and owner.
• Ensure safety is the top priority on the job-site, including conducting pre-safety meetings, weekly safety reports, and toolbox talks.
• Complete OSHA 30-hour training at a minimum.
• Conduct preplanning for new jobs, including reviewing plans and specifications, identifying pre-fabrication opportunities, and understanding the scope of work.
• Perform material take-offs, determine crew size, and identify tools and equipment needed.
• Direct coordination issues, review drawings with CAD designers, and sign off on drawings before printing and sending to the fabrication shop.
• Attend all coordination meetings involving the scope of work.
• Minimize downtime by scheduling work for employees, other trades, and subcontractors at least one week in advance.
• Ensure all tools, equipment, and materials are on-site when needed and returned when not in use.
• Develop contingency plans to keep the crew productive.
• Monitor productivity standards by comparing estimates to actual installation.
• Use the Four Week Look Ahead to set and meet productivity goals, rewarding the team when goals are achieved.
• Handle all orders and deliveries, minimizing returns and following up on backorders.
• Order material by area using the Bag and Tag method and maintain an updated submittal log.
• Communicate weekly with the Project Manager regarding productivity, RFIs, submittals, schedules, and manpower issues.
• Inspect job progress, quality, and safety daily.
• Manage personnel, subcontractors, and vendors to build teamwork and morale through fair decision-making.
• Close out jobs by ensuring final testing, equipment start-up, and owner demonstrations are completed and signed off.
• Complete valve tag charts, stenciling, and as-built drawings for turnover to the Project Manager.
• Finalize punch-lists and obtain owner sign-off.
• Clean up and demobilize job sites, including returning excess materials and cleaning trailers.
• Perform all other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of commercial experience in field plumbing, sprinkler, or heating operations.
• Stable work history.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• State/Journeyman Trade License.
• Must provide own basic hand tools.
• CPR certification.
• OSHA 30 certification.

Skills

• Ability to read blueprints.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Trade School education is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Eyesight correctable to 20/50.
• Able to work long hours on feet.
• Able to lift and climb ladders and scaffolds.
• Able to perform shift work.
• Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Must not be afraid of heights.
