About the role

At Cherokee Millwright, we are a multi-craft company that focuses on the needs of our customers by providing multi-trades personnel to meet the customer’s unique job requests. Therefore, all field employees will be cross-trained in various trades such as millwrighting, pipefitting, welding, sheet metal, civil, etc. The focus of this position will be to lay out, assemble, install and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports and related equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, compressed air and industrial production and processing systems. However, the role will not be limited to this specific skillset.

Responsibilities

• Cut, thread and hammer pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders and benders.
• Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering and threading joints.
• Attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment.
• Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines, using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
• Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
• Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
• Perform additional skills in other crafts as needed to meet customer requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Reasoning Ability

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

• The employee is regularly required to stand.
• The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
• The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
• The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
