About the role

Turner Industries is a fully diversified industrial contractor providing responsive, innovative solutions to increase plant production, reduce costs, and prevent downtime in the petrochemical, refining, energy, pulp and paper, and related industries. This non-exempt Pipefitter position in Kingsburg, TN lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping and piping systems for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems. Reports to the Foreman; assigned duties follow specific procedures and work is checked frequently.

Responsibilities

  • Selects and inspects proper safety gear for work tasks
  • Selects size and type of pipe and related material according to job specifications
  • Inspects worksites to determine presence of obstructions and ensure hole creation for pipe penetration will not cause structural weakness
  • Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers
  • Cuts, threads, and bends pipe
  • Assembles and installs a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe fittings (brass, copper, lead, glass, plastic)
  • Joins pipe using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints
  • Secures pipe to structure with clamps, brackets, supports, and hangers
  • Installs and maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping
  • Tests piping system for leaks
  • Utilizes a variety of power tools (electric, pneumatic, battery-powered)
  • Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) to four (4) years of experience in pipefitting (depending on mechanic level)
  • Basic knowledge of field drawings, sketches, and engineering drawings
  • Ability to connect flanged pipe connections using a cross-pattern bolting technique
  • Proficient in reading and using a tape measure
  • Understanding of how to utilize a framing square for pipefitting tasks
  • Ability to properly use power tools to prepare pipe for cutting, welding, threading, and bolting
  • A-class pipefitters must be able to make accurate and precise weld connection fit-ups
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of Turner Industries Drug, Alcohol, and Contraband Policy
  • Compliance with company and client job site safety requirements
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Physical Involvement

  • Climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level
  • Maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, and structures
  • Reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials
  • Coordinating eye, hand, and finger movements to operate tools and equipment
  • Lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead
  • Carrying objects, tools, and equipment
  • Standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching/squatting, crawling
  • Seeing and hearing with or without correction
