About the role
Assist journeyman in the planning, layout, installation, testing, and repair of all types of construction-related systems and components in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret measuring tools such as tape measures, speed squares, and framing squares to perform tasks accurately.
- Fully understand Plant North and drawing coordinates.
- Perform tasks including, but not limited to, threading, beveling, and cutting pipe.
- Use appropriate hand (e.g., wrap-around) and power tools (e.g., grinders) to fit and install all types of pipe and/or similar tubular products; possess working knowledge of butt welded, socket welded, threaded, Victaulic, grooved, glued, and fused joints.
- Assist in installing valves, couplings, and other fittings; disassembling and removing damaged or worn pipe.
- Produce quality work meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.
- Closely interact with installation crews for movement of materials and equipment.
- Perform daily safety checks to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
- Take direction from higher-skilled workers or foremen.
- Possess basic knowledge of construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction.
- Support the project with other tasks as directed by supervision.
- Communicate with foremen regarding problems, material requirements, or hazards.
- Work different shifts and overtime as required.
- Work under production schedule pressure and attain set standards of accuracy.
- Perform duties in a safe manner and set a personal example of safe behavior.
- Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations; actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
- Experience working in one or more construction craft roles as a helper or laborer, or a combination of work experience and training, with basic knowledge of the craft assigned.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Proficient in one or more craft areas.
- Ability to compute basic numbers, read scales, and use simple fractions.
- Developing knowledge in the fabrication, installation, or maintenance of construction components and systems testing with appropriate tools, and familiarity with applicable state and federal codes.
- Must have all necessary licenses required for the area where work is performed, if applicable.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Must possess all necessary tools (see craft-specific Helper Tool List).

Physical Demands
- Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
- Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully.
- Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
- Stamina to perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several-hour intervals.
- Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions with constant changes in weather and site conditions, including moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, and vests.
- Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
- Work at heights and abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; wear and utilize all required safety equipment.
- Evaluate information based on measurable standards; see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.

Pay
$22.00 / hour, commensurate with experience.
