Pipefitter Helper

About the Role

Assist Fitters/Welders with laying out, installing, maintaining, and repairing all types of piping systems for maintenance, tank, and new construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Actively support the Company’s commitment to safety and its Core Values while adhering to the Company’s "Code of Business Conduct and Ethics."
• Receive and understand instructions and prints regarding work assignments.
• Interpret drawings and sketches, plan work procedures, and select materials in accordance with engineering standards.
• Lay out work, calculate dimensions, and create sketches of piping systems as needed.
• Set up and operate bending, threading, and cutoff equipment; use hand tools or torches to shape, prepare, and fabricate pipe.
• Test, inspect, dismantle, repair, replace, or install high- or low-pressure piping, tubing, fittings, fixtures, and parts for systems carrying air, water, steam, oils, gases, acids, caustics, etc.
• Assemble and test piping components and set up pipe for welded or special-type joints.
• Fasten hangers and supports.
• Handle or arrange for the transport of materials, equipment, and tools to and from job sites in the shop or field.
• Report work performed and identify safety hazards, taking corrective action to eliminate or minimize risks.
• Perform other job-related duties as requested by supervision.

Requirements

• Minimum of four (4) years of experience in refinery maintenance, turnaround, or construction.
• General knowledge of basic hand tools.
• Must pass the Pipefitter Helper Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for the craft.
• Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training, and client/site-specific training.
• Must maintain active status in the approved drug testing program and pass a background check.
• Must possess an active TWIC card.

Physical Requirements

• Adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
• Communicate effectively through talking and hearing.
• Demonstrate good dexterity with hands and fingers for precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.
• Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
• Lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
• Occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms (up to 300' with proper fall protection).
• Use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, distinguish colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
• Work outside in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, wind) for extended periods (up to 12 hours a day).
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
