About the role
A journeyman-level Pipefitter responsible for layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, and maintenance of piping and plumbing systems for steam, water, sprinkler, heating, cooling, lubricating, and related systems. Work involves interpreting specifications, blueprints, manuals, and sketches, and planning sequences of operations based on pressure capacities and materials.
Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts, and specifications to plan and execute piping/plumbing work.
- Measure, cut, thread, bend, file, bur, and ream pipe using hacksaws, benders, pipe cutters, threading tools, chisels, torches, soldering irons, drills, taps, and related hand/power tools.
- Assemble and install pipe and plumbing fittings using clamps, brackets, hangers, wrenches, pliers, and other tools.
- Repair, replace, and maintain defective piping/plumbing components such as valves, traps, toilets, showers, and drinking fountains.
- Inspect piping and plumbing systems to detect malfunctions and perform necessary repairs/adjustments.
- Perform incidental tasks required to complete larger assignments.
- Provide mechanical support to manufacturing operations, including troubleshooting mechanical systems or equipment.
- Complete preventive maintenance at defined intervals on mechanical equipment.
- Perform tasks historically assigned to other mechanical classifications (e.g., millwright, machine repair, sheet metal worker).
- Perform other duties as required to meet departmental and company needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Minimum of 4 years of combined experience/training in a bona fide apprenticeship program as a Pipefitter; OR a U.S. Department of Labor Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate as a Pipefitter; OR 8 years of documented Pipefitter experience; OR 5 years of documented Pipefitter experience and 3 years in a related trade.
- Ability to work any shift, including overtime, weekends, and holidays, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Experience as a Pipefitter in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications.
- Knowledge of types/sizes of pipe and related materials (metallic, vitreous, plastic) per job specifications.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to diagnose mechanical system issues and provide support to manufacturing operations.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems.
- Strong computer skills, including knowledge of G-Suite.
- Cross-functional experience in related trades (e.g., millwright, machine repair, sheet metal work).
