About the Role

Lays out, installs, maintains, and repairs all types of piping systems for maintenance, tank, and new construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and understands instructions and prints regarding work assignments.
  • Interprets drawings and sketches; plans working procedures and selects materials in accordance with engineering standards.
  • Lays out work, calculates dimensions, and makes sketches of piping systems as needed.
  • Sets up and operates bending, threading, and cutoff equipment; uses hand tools or torches to shape, prepare, and fabricate pipe.
  • Tests, inspects, dismantles, repairs, replaces, or installs high- or low-pressure piping, tubing, fittings, fixtures, and parts for pipelines carrying air, water, steam, oils, gases, acids, caustics, etc.
  • Assembles and tests piping components; sets up pipe for welded or special-type joints.
  • Fastens hangers and supports.
  • Handles or arranges for the transport of materials, equipment, and tools to and from job sites.
  • Documents work performed in reports.
  • Identifies safety hazards and takes corrective action to eliminate or minimize risks.
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested by supervision.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four (4) years of refinery maintenance, turnaround, or construction experience.
  • General knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • Must pass the Pipefitter Skills Test at or above 70% or complete NCCER certification for the craft.
  • Experience with testing, inspecting, dismantling, repairing, replacing, or installing high- or low-pressure piping systems.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings and P&IDs.
  • Completion of Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training, and client/site-specific training.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain active status within the approved drug testing program.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Physical Requirements

  • Extensive standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
  • Frequent communication through talking and hearing.
  • Good dexterity for precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.
  • Use of arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional work at heights, climbing ladders and stairways, and working off platforms (up to 300’ with proper fall protection).
  • Capability to work outside in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, wind) for extended periods (up to 12 hours per day).
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
