Pipe Welder

About the role

Innovative Refrigeration Systems, Inc. is the leading provider of industrial refrigeration and process cooling solutions, delivering custom engineered systems utilizing natural refrigerants such as ammonia and CO₂. The 6G SMAW Pipe Welder will perform high-quality welds on pipe ranging from ¾" to 18" (primarily 2"-6") for critical refrigeration components such as compressors, vessels, evaporators, and condensers. This position operates on 1st shift, Monday through Friday, with alternating Saturdays.

Responsibilities

• Weld pipe ranging from ¾" to 18" diameter, primarily 2"-6"
• Weld pipe runs on critical components (compressors, vessels, evaporators, oil separators, condensers, and other prefabricated parts)
• Cut, bevel, and fit pipe accurately
• Set up and perform open root welding (no insert)
• Achieve welding productivity targets (e.g., 50 diameter inches in 8 hours)
• Perform load rigging, torch cutting, and leveling using measurement tools
• Operate grinders and wire wheels
• Assist shop team with insulation, electrical, and painting tasks as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned on the job site

Requirements

• Must be able to pass a 6G SMAW weld test (2" schedule 80 steel stick, 6010 root, 7018 cap - uphill weld, 45-degree angle)
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
• Familiarity with rigging, torch cutting, grinder and wire wheel operation, leveling, and measurement tools
• Team-oriented and safety-conscious

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, and up to 75 pounds occasionally
• Ability to stand, bend, crouch, and kneel for extended periods of time
• Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying conditions (heat, cold, dust, noise)
• Must have the physical stamina to perform repetitive motions and remain on feet for most of the shift
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate tools accurately and safely
