ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be able to pass 6G pipe weld test using SMAW (stick) process
- Competent with pipe cutting methods such as oxyacetylene rigs, grinders, portabands, and Sawzall’s
- Weld a variety of pipes and sizes at customer site locations, both in a pipe-vice and in position
- Absorb and assist in assembling piping systems
- Able to select correct materials and tools for piping commercial HVAC equipment such as boilers and chillers
- Able to work at heights from a ladder or aerial work platform
- Braze and solder copper water lines
- Thread and install carbon steel pipe for various applications
- Be able to take accurate piping measurements for cutting and assembling piping joints
- Keep jobsite clean and orderly to promote safety and best practices
- Absorb and assist in instructing and training welding assistants
- Collaborate with installation crew to rig and set equipment in place
- Absorb and assist in the demolition process of existing piping assemblies to be replaced
- Follow all safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Absorb and assist with other team member duties as necessary
- Absorbs ability to travel to customer’s locations
- Absorbs ability to work weekends and/or evenings as necessary
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Three to five years related experience and/or training
- Two years of related trade school, preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- TIG Welding experience a plus
- Proficiency with computer devices (including tablets and smart phones)
- Ability to pass drug screening
- Ability to prove US employment eligibility
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, squat, balance, and climb, with occasional sitting and lying
- Requires working in confined/constricted spaces and at elevated heights (e.g., ladders, scaffolding, rooftops)
- Material handling demands include lifting from floor level to overhead and maneuvering in tight or awkward spaces
- Ability to lift and carry or otherwise move: Up to 25 pounds constantly, up to 50 pounds occasionally, over 50 pounds only with mechanical assistance or team lift, following safety protocols
- Frequent use of hands and wrists for repetitive tasks such as tool use, wiring, or securing fasteners
- Must have sufficient hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to use hand tools, power tools, and electronic diagnostic equipment
- Must be able to work at heights
- Must be able to climb and perform tasks while positioned on ladders
- Regularly required to use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms
- Must be able to communicate effectively and perceive verbal instructions and warnings in a high-noise industrial environment (above 85 dBA), while wearing required hearing protection
- Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Must have the physical capacity to work extended hours, including overtime and weekends, during peak demand or emergency service periods
- Position is classified in the Heavy Physical Demand Classification (PDC)
- Regularity exposed to mechanical/equipment rooms, rooftops, and drop ceilings
- Occasionally required to work in extreme outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and unconditioned indoor spaces
- The employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious locations; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration
- All exposures occur within regulated safety limits, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided
- Personal Protective Equipment (ppe) Requirements Must wear appropriate PPE, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety-toed boots, hard hats, high-visibility vests or shirts, task-specific gloves, fall protection harness and hearing protection, as required by the work environment
- Specialized PPE (e.g., respirators, arc-rated clothing, fall protection) may be required depending on task-specific hazards, and training will be provided as needed
- All PPE must comply with OSHA standards and be inspected daily for proper condition, fits appropriately, and is free of defects
