Pipe Welder
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written work instructions to perform tasks at hand.
- Prepare materials by sawing pipe to specified lengths, drilling, beveling, cleaning, and welding in accordance with project specifications.
- Perform GTAW open-root welding using a backing purge.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Measure and mark workpieces for perpendicularity and parallelism.
- Able to follow WPS's and populate weld traveler recording information in detail.
- Inspect machinery and project components for malfunctions and defects.
- Monitor the fitting and welding processes to avoid excessive warping, shrinking, distortion within the piping system.
- Ensure work environment and equipment are clean and safe for operation.
- Able to pass a stainless steel 6G GTAW test and demonstrate sufficient skills.
- Able to learn plastic welding and finishing.
- Work overtime when required to support customer demand.
- Clean and maintain work areas.
- Adhere to and support all company safety policies and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Five (5) years of experience in pipe welding in a fabrication or manufacturing environment and demonstrated proficiency in MIG and TIG welding techniques, specifically experience in welding tight tolerance parts made of stainless steel.
- Ability to achieve ASME Section IX welder qualifications in GTAW and FCAW.
- Strong understanding of various metals, their properties, and appropriate welding techniques for each type of metal.
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot welding issues, such as weld defects, equipment malfunctions, or material inconsistencies, and implement corrective measures.
- Knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
- Understanding of the properties and characteristics of metals used for cutting, welding, and forming objects and of various welding processes.
- Able to take direction, work well with others and be an active team member.
- Able to read and understand Safety Data Sheets, and engineering documents and drawings without assistance.
- Able to communicate clearly and professionally, both written and verbal.
- Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Past ASME Code Certifications.
- Completion of a certified welding course.
- Ten (10) plus years of experience in pipe welding in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated hourly rate for this position is between $32 - $38/hr, depending on qualifications and experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, and paid time off.
