Non-exempt, hourly position reporting to a crew foreman. Performs a variety of manual construction tasks under direction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform strenuous manual labor on heavy/highway construction projects
  • Set up, maintain, and clean work sites, including scaffolding construction/dismantling, barricade locating, and equipment positioning
  • Load, unload, and distribute materials, machinery, or tools
  • Direct traffic at or near building sites and carry out other traffic management activities
  • Dig ditches/trenches, backfill excavations, and compact/level earth or asphalt
  • Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts
  • Operate pumps, compressors, or generators and signal equipment operators
  • Assist craft workers (carpenters, ironworkers, plasterers, masons)
  • Measure, mark, or record openings/distances for site preparation
  • Operate power and hand tools: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, hoists, surveying/measuring equipment
  • Maintain clean work area and perform daily equipment safety checks
  • Adhere to company safety program
  • Erect/dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or temporary structures

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • One year experience as general laborer or equivalent
  • Active Driver’s license
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to worksites
  • Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary
  • Experience with underground utilities, heavy equipment, or pipe laying preferred

Physical Demands

  • Constant physical effort, including extended standing for 8+ hour shifts
  • Intermittent sitting; continuous walking on construction sites
  • Regular climbing, twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
  • Regular reaching above shoulder level and pushing/pulling objects
  • Repetitive lifting/carrying of 75+ pounds (occasionally heavier)
  • Agility, balance, and arm-hand steadiness
  • Regular use of hands/fingers to handle tools and equipment
  • Good vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

  • Regularly works in outdoor weather conditions (extreme heat/humidity)
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet/humid conditions, and vibration
  • Handles toxic products (epoxies, grouts, sealers, paints, cleaners) with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and caustic chemicals
  • Risk of electrical shock
  • Moderate to loud noise levels
