Pipe Foreman - Hickory, NC
About the role
The Pipe/Utility Foreman is a field position responsible for organizing and leading a crew to safely and efficiently perform construction activities related to the construction of underground piping systems. This position reports to the Project Superintendent.
Responsibilities
- Read, understand, and communicate about contract plans and details
- Use a site level to layout, install, and verify product being installed
- Communicate site, labor, and material needs to the Project Superintendent to maintain production in the field
- Plan, organize, and lead a 3 or more person crew to successfully complete the work
- Manage daily work schedule for timely completion within 8-hour day
- Create a team environment with crew members to maintain discipline, attendance, and production
- Train new workers as part of the company-wide training program
- Plan for and maintain a safe work environment, requesting safety supplies at least 1 day prior to start of shift
- Immediately communicate problems and site conditions to upper management
- Complete an electronic daily report documenting daily activities, work hours, site inspectors, subs, and materials used or present during every day worked
- Maintain a clean and organized site
- Communicate with State Inspectors about work for the day and provide input to them as needed for work in progress
Requirements
- Experience in planning and executing underground RCP, CMP, and HDPE storm pipe systems installation in accordance with NCDOT specifications
- Additional experience in ductile iron water and sewer main planning, installation, and testing of completed product is a plus
- Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot project plans and specifications related to the construction of storm, water, and sewer mains
- Well versed in survey layout and as-built checking for the product being installed
- Experienced heavy equipment operator
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience as a construction foreman with a minimum of 5 years in underground pipe system installations
- Diploma or certificate in a skilled trade (Carpenter, site grading, pipe installation, etc.) is a plus
Skills
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Experience with heavy equipment operation
- Knowledge of surveying and as-built checking

Schedule
This is a full-time position. Normal days and hours of work are Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with time provided for lunch, hours may vary. Travel/Driving
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. Driver’s license is required. This position is eligible for a company-supplied vehicle, or a monthly vehicle stipend.
Supervisory Responsibility
Assigns work to subordinates, establishes deadlines, and modifies work schedules to meet deadlines depicted in the project schedule. Communicates with the project team regularly, discussing schedule, needs, equipment, and long-term work planning.
