Responsibilities
- Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions such as fixtures, and determines sequence of operations.
- Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits.
- Plans sequence of operations, applying knowledge of, effects of heat, and allowances for weld shrinkage, machining, and thickness of metal.
- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly/tacking and or welding using prescribed fixtures and proper work procedures.
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as welding machines, Grinders ETC.
- Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or portable grinders.
- Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
- Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Moves parts into position manually or by hoist or crane.
Requirements
- Able to lift, pull, push and/or carry up to 50lbs.
- Must have manual dexterity and visual acuity.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position such as: standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting, etc.
Qualifications
- Desired: Must be certified or able to pass FCAW weld test to AWS D1.1 standards.
- Minimum of 3-6 years on the job experience in a structural shop as a Welder.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
- Knowledgeable in crane operations and rigging of structural steel and operation.
- Familiar with craftsmanship criteria set forth in AWS D1.1.
- Knowledge and Proficiency in Additional welding processes such as GTAW, and SMAW is a plus.
