About the role

Hexcel is seeking a R&D Lab Technician II for our Salt Lake City, UT, USA location. The selected individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following obligations:

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine tasks in support of carbon fiber pilot plant operations.
  • Conduct laboratory analyses and testing as directed.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and innovation within pilot plant operations.
  • Evaluate new processes and methods, utilizing sound judgment to support research and product development objectives.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for new processes, procedures, and operational improvements.
  • Maintain laboratory and pilot plant equipment and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Operate in compliance with all Hexcel Salt Lake City environmental policies and regulations.
  • Work overtime as required to support operational and project needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, research, laboratory, or testing environment; (or at least 3 years of carbon fiber manufacturing experience—strongly preferred).
  • Ability to work four 10-hour swing shifts, Tuesday through Friday, with limited overtime and some schedule flexibility preferred.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, technical aptitude, and innovation in a manufacturing or R&D laboratory setting.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn and apply new processes, procedures, and technologies.
  • Basic computer proficiency and math skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds independently and up to 80 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring a full range of motion, including overhead reaching, bending, stooping, twisting, and turning.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and walk throughout the facility multiple times during a shift.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
