About the role
The Clayton Connect Pilot/Escort Driver works with the team to ensure the safe and efficient transport of oversized loads, predominantly from Clayton Manufacturing locations to Clayton Retailers. The role requires travel for multiple hours a day, with multiple overnight trips per week, and a team mindset to work collaboratively with the Toter driver.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of the home for shipment (e.g., installing lights, checking tires, securing plastic).
- Pilot/escort the home as it navigates the required route, calling out hazards, acquiring multiple lanes, and assisting in repairs.
- Maintain communication with the Toter driver via CB radio and with Retailers.
- Understand and comply with state-specific Pilot/Escort requirements.
- Represent the company professionally, as vehicles are considered rolling billboards.
- Perform pre-trip inspections, flagging, and other tasks required for safe cargo transport and delivery.
- Assist in changing flat tires and other physical tasks related to cargo maintenance.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License (may require additional endorsements).
- Motor Vehicle Report and Background Check in line with company requirements.
- Must pass company drug testing and adhere to company policies.
- Must obtain/maintain a P/EVO and Defensive Driving Certification.
- Availability for overnight stays 2-3 nights each week.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the position, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling for inspections and repairs.
- Willingness to operate a motor vehicle in all 48 states.
- Proficiency in reading and speaking English, understanding bills of lading and permits, and safely planning trips.

Schedule
Weekdays with occasional weekends. Requires 2-3 overnight stays per week.
