Responsibilities
- Absess and perform an overall evaluation of the patient.
- Place the line and ensure correct insertion.
- Communicate effectively with patient, family, and other healthcare providers.
- Complete required paperwork.
- Provide patient education about PICC (or midline) insertion and care.
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Assure physician’s order on the patient’s chart for PICC placement.
- Obtain informed consent.
- Perform time-out; verify patient identifiers before PICC procedure.
- Maintain aseptic technique during PICC placement.
- Document PICC (or midline) insertion, confirmation of placement, and medication administration.
- Provide facility nurses/staff with instructions about patient’s PICC (or midline) care and maintenance.
- Support Territory Managers in meetings for clinical support.
- Participate in facility rounds with Director of Vascular Access.
- Maintain fiscal viability of the PICC program by entering charges, managing equipment usage, and optimizing time.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in nursing.
- Current RN license.
- PICC certification.
- Current BLS certification.
- Good knowledge base for caring for central venous catheters.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Two years of OR, IR, or PICC insertion experience.
