Job Summary
The Old Town School of Folk Music seeks part-time piano teachers to teach group classes in our Piano Lab at the Lincoln Park location.
About the Role
The Old Town School of Folk Music offers group piano classes for adult learners in our Piano Lab. Ideal candidates would be comfortable teaching students with a range of experience and ability levels. They would foster students’ self-motivation and the desire to practice and learn in a friendly, community-centered classroom environment. The Piano Lab program uses the Alfred Adult All-In-One Book as well as supplemental material including song sheets to teach note reading, chord chart reading, and even singing along.
Qualifications
- High level of musicianship and personal responsibility
- Ability to sing a plus
Skills/Competencies
- Ability to teach beginning through advanced levels
- PREFERRED: Preferred Skills/Competencies - Minimum two years of teaching experience, Experience teaching group classes
Education and Experience
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Music Education or Performance
- Candidate with a knowledge of diverse piano repertoire
Additional Eligibility Requirements
- Must be able to work weekends in Lincoln Park
Instructor Hourly Pay Rate
$37/hour

About Old Town School of Folk Music
Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music ("OTSFM") is the largest community school of the arts in the U.S. and a non-profit organization committed to celebrating American music and global cultures. Founded in 1957, Old Town School provides various music, dance, and arts courses to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Whatever one's interest, Old Town School provides broad access to more than 700 weekly class offerings, a broad array of private lessons, and over 400 concerts and community events per year. Old Town School of Folk Music opened its Lincoln Square facility in 1998 and expanded in 2012. Online classes were introduced in 2020 and students from nearly every state and a dozen countries participated throughout the pandemic.
