PI Historian Automation Engineer / OSI PI SME

Position Summary

We are seeking a strong AVEVA PI / OSIsoft PI Historian Automation Engineer / SME to lead the technical design, configuration, integration, and troubleshooting of PI Historian within a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This individual will work with manufacturing equipment, automation systems, EMS/BMS platforms, facility systems, and other OT data sources to collect, contextualize, historize, and expose process data for reporting and analysis. The role requires deep hands-on PI experience and the ability to work with equipment vendors, automation engineers, IT/OT teams, validation engineers, and reporting resources.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and support AVEVA PI / OSIsoft PI Historian architecture and integrations.
• Configure and manage PI Data Archive, PI Asset Framework, PI Interfaces/Connectors, PI Points/Tags, and Event Frames.
• Define and configure PI tag structures, naming conventions, attributes, calculations, and data mappings.
• Map manufacturing equipment parameters, alarms, statuses, batch variables, process values, and facility data into PI Historian.
• Configure PI AF models to represent equipment, systems, manufacturing areas, and process hierarchy.
• Develop Event Frames for batches, production events, equipment states, alarms, and other operational events.
• Integrate PI with PLC, SCADA, DCS, EMS, BMS, equipment controllers, OPC, SQL, APIs, and other data sources.
• Support middleware or edge-integration technologies such as HighByte Intelligence Hub where applicable.
• Troubleshoot communication failures, bad-quality data, tag issues, timestamp problems, buffering, data gaps, and performance issues.
• Support generation of batch, production, utility, alarm, environmental, and KPI reports through Dream Report.
• Work with reporting resources to ensure correct PI data is available and structured appropriately.
• Participate in design reviews, commissioning, testing, qualification, and production support.
• Develop and maintain configuration documentation, data maps, interface specifications, tag lists, and technical documentation.
• Support cybersecurity, access-control, backup, recovery, and system-hardening requirements in collaboration with IT/OT teams.
• Work closely with CSV resources to support validation and qualification of the PI Historian solution.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with OSIsoft PI / AVEVA PI System.
• Strong experience with PI Data Archive / PI DA, PI Asset Framework / PI AF, PI Interfaces and Connectors, PI Points / Tags, Event Frames, AF Analytics / calculations, and data mapping and equipment integration.
• Experience integrating industrial automation or manufacturing systems with PI Historian.
• Knowledge of OPC, OPC UA, PLC, SCADA, DCS, SQL, APIs, or industrial communication protocols.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across IT/OT and automation environments.
• Experience working with equipment and system vendors during integration and commissioning.

Preferred Experience

• Pharmaceutical, biotech, sterile manufacturing, or other GxP environments.
• Batch manufacturing and batch-contextualized historian data.
• HighByte Intelligence Hub or similar industrial middleware.
• EMS/BMS data integration.
• Dream Report.
• Allen-Bradley, Siemens, DeltaV, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Ignition, or similar automation platforms.
• Understanding of 21 CFR Part 11, data integrity, audit trails, and validated systems.
