Position Summary

The Physiotherapy Specialist will provide rehabilitation services as part of Project HOPE’s Gaza Response program. In the context of active conflict, mass casualties, displacement, and increased incidence of trauma-related injuries, the position will support early rehabilitation interventions to improve functional recovery and reduce long-term disability among affected populations.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Coverage of comprehensive functional and physical assessments and development of individualized physiotherapy treatment plans for patients with trauma-related injuries, musculoskeletal conditions, neurological impairments, or post-surgical needs.

  • Delivery of physiotherapy interventions including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, mobility training, strengthening programs, and functional rehabilitation techniques.

  • Support of early rehabilitation and mobilization for patients with conflict-related injuries to prevent complications such as contractures, muscle weakness, and long-term disability.

  • Absorption of patients' mobility limitations and recommendation of appropriate assistive devices and mobility aids such as crutches, walkers, or wheelchairs when needed.

  • Education of patients and caregivers on home-based rehabilitation exercises, injury prevention strategies, and safe mobility practices.

  • Maintenance of accurate patient records and contribution to rehabilitation data reporting in line with Project HOPE and donor requirements.

  • Collaboration with medical, nursing, occupational therapy, MHPSS, and protection teams to ensure integrated and patient-centered care.

  • Promotion of inclusion of persons with disabilities and ensuring equitable access to rehabilitation services.

  • Participation in community outreach and awareness activities related to injury prevention, rehabilitation services, and disability inclusion.

  • Support of capacity building of local health staff on basic rehabilitation techniques when appropriate.

  • Ensuring adherence to safeguarding, accountability, infection prevention and control (IPC), and protection mainstreaming principles in all patient interactions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy or Physical Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Valid and current professional license to practice.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in physiotherapy practice.
  • Experience in trauma rehabilitation or post-surgical rehabilitation preferred.
  • Experience working in humanitarian or emergency settings is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of rehabilitation protocols and patient-centered care approaches.
  • Ability to work effectively in resource-constrained and high-pressure environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles and safeguarding standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in conflict-affected or hardship contexts such as Gaza.
  • Familiarity with WHO rehabilitation guidelines and humanitarian health standards (Sphere).
  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams in emergency health programs.
  • Training in assistive device fitting or community-based rehabilitation approaches.
