Physicist – Radiation Oncology - Full Time

About the role

The successful candidate would join a team of 6 staff physicists, 3 faculty physicists along with 7 dosimetrists in support of a practice of 10 physicians. You would be actively involved with the Gamma Knife Icon unit which is situated within the Radiation Oncology clinical department, as well as participate in other standard radiation therapy physics activities: machine calibrations, equipment QA, treatment planning activities, dosimetry measurements, calculations, brachytherapy, radiation safety and some teaching.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the operation and maintenance of Gamma Knife Icon unit
• Provide technical support for daily operations of the Gamma Knife Icon unit
• Collaborate with radiation oncologists and dosimetrists to optimize treatment plans
• Conduct routine and special QA/QC procedures for all linear accelerators and brachytherapy equipment
• Perform dosimetric measurements and calculations for treatment planning
• Assist with the implementation and evaluation of new technologies and treatment modalities
• Participate in research and development projects related to radiation therapy physics
• Teach and mentor medical physics residents and students
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and safety protocols

Requirements

M.S. or Ph.D. in physics, medical physics or related field
New York State Licensed medical physicist or New York State License eligible

Preferred Criteria

• American Board of Radiology (ABR) certified
• Three years of experience in Radiation Oncology Physics
• Experience with Gamma Knife
• Experience with Varian TrueBeam
• Experience with Eclipse
• Experience with Brainlab
• Experience with IGRT

Qualifications

Required Criteria

• New York State Licensed medical physicist or New York State License eligible

Skills

Required Skills:

• Knowledge of radiation therapy physics principles and techniques
• Experience with Gamma Knife Icon unit
• Proficiency in radiation therapy treatment planning software (Eclipse, Brainlab, Leksell Gamma Plan, Velocity)
• Ability to perform dosimetric measurements and calculations
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
