Physician Specialist-Oral Surgeon UCHC Statewide (Per Diem)

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Per Diem Physician Specialist - Oral Surgeon to provide on-site Exodontia to the inmate population in the State Prisons of the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC).

About the role

The Physician Specialist-Oral Surgeon performs surgery on mouth, jaws, and related head and neck structures to execute difficult and multiple extractions of teeth, remove tumors and other abnormal growths, correct abnormal jaw relations by mandibular or maxillary revision, prepare the mouth for insertion of dental prosthesis, or treat fractured jaws. The role involves effective collaboration with inmates, dental staff, medical and nursing staff, correctional staff, administrative, and support staff.

Responsibilities

• Clinically examine, evaluate, and diagnose conditions in patients referred by General Dentists through an internal referral process in NJDOC facilities.
• Provide follow-up consultations and care for patients treated clinically.
• Administer local anesthetics.
• Remove impacted, damaged, and non-restorable teeth.
• Perform surgery on the mouth and jaws to treat conditions such as jaw growth problems.

Requirements

• Completed residency and/or fellowship training programs in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
• Board eligible as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
• Licensed by the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry.
• Current CDS License and DEA certification.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Dentistry or university with a DDS or DMD degree.
• Computer literacy.
• Valid Driver’s License; must possess own vehicle or have alternative means of transportation between sites.
• Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
