Physician Senior Specialist

This career spans a dynamic spectrum of programs, including radiation safety, physical and psychological health certification, chemical, physical, and ergonomic surveillance, and supervision of beryllium, silica, hearing conservation, and asbestos programs.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat work-related illnesses and injuries, conducting fitness-for-duty physical examinations.
• Direct the company's internal employee-oriented medical activities, including pre-employment physicals, comprehensive check-ups, and treatment for work-connected illnesses.
• Provide medical and surgical care in critical industrial accident or disease cases.
• Collaborate with the psychological team to certify nuclear workers.
• Re-examine disability cases periodically to track and verify progress.
• Maintain case histories, health examination reports, and other vital medical records.
• Develop and administer health programs, inspect the plant, and recommend improvements to industrial hygiene and health hazards.
• Practice ambulatory occupational medicine, including:
  • Delivering treatment for illnesses and injuries affecting plant employees.
  • Executing new hire and periodic exams to ensure peak performance and safety.
  • Reviewing clinical records, drug screens as the Medical Review Officer, and health examination reports to determine fitness for duty.
  • Implementing and maintaining health programs mandated by the Department of Energy (DOE) or other regulatory authorities.
  • Providing strategic recommendations to mitigate safety and health hazards to Senior Leadership.
• Oversee multiple nurse practitioners and/or psychologists in an AAAHC-accredited clinic.
• Recommend groundbreaking medical and health policies to prevent injury and disease, guided by programmatic drivers such as 10 CFR 712, 10 CFR 1046, 10 CFR 707, and 10 CFR 850 & 851.
• Direct the work of four or more employees (e.g., two full-time employees or equivalent).

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school with at least 7 years of practicing medicine.
• Must have or be able to obtain:
  • Texas medical license
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification
  • Medical Review Officer (MRO) certification
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience practicing clinical medicine.
• Board Eligible/Board Certified (BE/BC).
• Occupational Medicine training preferred, but Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Emergency Department, or any Specialist physician with appropriate occupational medicine experience will be considered.
• Experience working in a clinical setting with diverse populations.

Schedule

Dynamic and engaging 9/80 work schedule with limited on-call responsibilities via telephone (approximately one week every 5-6 weeks).

Additional Information

Requires a Q clearance; all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required. Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP), including a counterintelligence-scope polygraph. Medical requirements may apply.
