Physician - Pulmonologist - Recruitment/Relocation Incentive and EDRP Authorized

About the role

Provide expert consultation and treatment for patients with Pulmonary conditions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive evaluations, including history taking, physical examinations, and the ordering of diagnostic labs and tests and studies.
• Interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests and follow-up on test results in a timely manner.
• Work with pulmonary clinic staff, respiratory staff and other disciplines to develop and implement plan of care according to patient need.
• Provide Electronic Consultation services (E-Consults) and reviews consults for determination if appropriate for Care in the Community or local/regional VA services.
• Provide education and counseling for patients regarding medical conditions, health status and the use of prescribed treatment and drugs.
• Collaborate and consult with other providers, nursing, social work, psychologists, and pharmacists as needed to ensure seamless and comprehensive patient care.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences if indicated, including discharge planning.
• May be assigned duty as a supervising or collaborating physician for a Physician Assistant. Provide clinical oversight and review.
• Act as surrogates for the patients of their colleagues, when one or more of their colleagues are on leave.
• May be tasked to travel to Community Based Outpatient Clinics as requested/assigned by the ACOS-SC.

Requirements

Physician must have expertise in pulmonary procedures; including bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, chest tubes, pleurovac, and other skills depending on facility privileging.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Education

Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:

• Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
• Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted.
