Western Mental Health Institute (WMHI) in Bolivar, Tennessee, is the state’s third-largest mental health hospital, serving 24 West Tennessee counties since 1889. The facility provides voluntary and involuntary hospitalizations, as well as court-referred pre-trial evaluations, across 150 beds distributed among 2 short-term care units, 4 long-term care units, and therapeutic treatment units.

WMHI offers a culturally diverse setting with excellent State of Tennessee benefits. Physician Psychiatrists work as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team, delivering high-quality clinical care with minimal administrative requirements.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a one-hour lunch break.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Lead Psychiatrist in an acute or sub-acute unit, acting as head of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Supervise a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, if applicable.
• Manage medication, admissions, discharges, and daily progress notes.
• Participate in hospital committees.
• Conduct clinical reviews (rounds) during morning hours to address patient care changes and implement treatment updates the same day.
• Demonstrate expertise in treating individuals with complex psychiatric and addiction issues and their families.
• Utilize Electronic Clinical Record (ECR) and other computer systems as needed.
• Network effectively among diverse agencies and organizations.
• Communicate clearly in written and public speaking contexts, engaging internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
• Initiate and sustain multi-agency and multi-community policy, system, and environmental change strategies.
• Be present on the assigned unit during morning hours to confer with the treatment team, review lab reports, consultations, and other clinical documents, and address patient care issues as needed.

Requirements

• Board Certified or Board Eligible Physician Psychiatrist.
• Completion of a four-year psychiatric residency from an accredited program.
• Licensed to practice medicine in Tennessee or willingness to obtain licensure prior to hire.

Pay

• Board Eligible: $200,004.00 - $250,000.00 annually.
• Board Certified: $220,008.00 - $270,000.00 annually.
