Physician (Primary Care)

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Qualifications

• To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
• Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine
• The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
• Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification

Preferred Experience

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine - 2 years of outpatient Primary Care experience

Duties

• The Robley Rex VA Medical Center is currently seeking outstanding full-time Family Practice or Internal Medicine trained Physicians to join our Primary Care Clinic Team as a Primary Care Provider
• This incumbent will be responsible to provide comprehensive medical care - under the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model - to a panel of patients managed under PCMM guidelines
• The incumbent is expected to be attentive to patient education - preventive care and be able to work well in an interdisciplinary team to provide high quality primary care
• The incumbent will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care
• Duties and responsibilities include - but are not limited to:
• Manages chronic conditions - evaluates and treats inter-current medical conditions
• Conduct medical assessment and develop treatment plans according to accepted protocols
• Collaborates with a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) to provide accessible - comprehensive - coordinated - continuous care to an assigned panel of patients
• Screens for - evaluates and treats uncomplicated common mental health disorders - including depression and common addictions - with referrals made to mental health providers for further evaluation and treatment as appropriate
• Primary care physicians will have responsibility for supervision of or collaboration with primary care mid-level providers
• Physicians are expected to provide clinical oversight and to participate in peer review of other primary care providers through periodic chart reviews
• Primary care physicians will act as surrogates for absent primary care providers when needed - to include review of CPRS view alerts
• Primary care physicians will attend primary care staff meetings - departmental meetings and medical staff meetings
• Timely documentation (notes and encounter forms) is necessary in all areas in accordance with facility policy
• All administrative work should be completed in a timely fashion
• Clinical reminders should be addressed as medically appropriate
• Quality of care should meet professional standards
• Utilization of all Virtual Care modalities is an expectation of this position
• Provides timely follow-up on results - including completion of view alerts
• Prescribes medication according to approved formulary - and in accordance with Federal and State Law
• Consults other specialties as appropriate - according to service agreements
• Demonstrates flexibility in responding to clinic demands - adhere to personal and professional obligations and responsibilities - practice and maintain ethical standards - and sustain a work environment that is harmonious and customer service oriented
• Cover unassigned/unscheduled patients or clinic when a provider is on leave or when there is a provider vacancy - urgent need
• Functions as the managing physician for nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants as assigned by

Pay

• Competitive salary - annual performance bonus - regular salary increases
• Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave - 13 days of sick leave - 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

• Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
• Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm CST may require some extended hours and Saturdays
