Physician-Primary Care

Major Duties

• Provides primary care services for a panel of 1250 patients.
• Performs exams according to performance measure guidelines and procedures.
• Dictates/type notes according to policy/procedure.
• Reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
• Screens outpatient to determine need for further care.
• Evaluates unscheduled patients under the physician's care.
• Orders diagnostic studies.
• Carries out health promotion and disease prevention activities.
• Initiates and expedites requests for consultations and schedules special tests and studies.
• May be on rotation to do extended hours once per month or less.

Functions or Scopes of Practice

• Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the primary care team.
• Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs.
• Complies with national and local performance measures.
• Complies with all CPRS documentation procedures.
• Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings.
• Attends regular Service Line Staff meetings and Clinic Team meetings.
• Maintains current BLS certification and completes mandatory educational classes.

Other Significant Responsibilities

• Academic/Teaching/Training opportunities are available at several clinics with residents and/or medical students.
• Participation in Peer Review process.
• Affirming Nursing Protocol Agreements ensuring the agreements meet accepted medical standards for prescribing privileges.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30 pm. Subject to change based on agency need.

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Two years of Primary Care provider experience, Board Certified Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or D.O. preferred.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019.
• Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
• Must be physically, emotionally and mentally stable in order to efficiently perform the essential functions of this position without hazard to themselves or others.
