Physician - Primary Care

About the role

Functions as a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) provider within Ambulatory Care Services at the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS). The position is located at the Spirit Lake Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) and reports directly to the Spirit Lake CBOC Medical Director.

Responsibilities

- Provides total care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing history and physical exams, ordering appropriate lab tests, radiology studies, and screening studies. - Evaluates test results, develops a treatment and follow-up plan, including medication, medical equipment, and home-based interventions within VA guidelines. - Conducts outpatient follow-up visits, post-discharge follow-ups, and manages care with specialty and sub-specialty medical providers. - Schedules patients with appropriate department services and assists in preparing patients/families for appointments. - Assists in the preparation of patients and families for health promotion and disease prevention activities. - Manages urgent or acute care needs for Veterans assigned and others during gaps in provider availability. - Supports cross-site telehealth coverage for other CBOCs and primary care locations within SFVAHCS. - Collaborates with telehealth clinical technicians and other team members to ensure smooth and effective virtual clinical operations. - Completes patient encounters, notes, and correctly codes visits in accordance with coding guidelines. - Acts as the focal point of the designated outpatient clinic by being the contact person for all other consultant services regarding patient care and providing consultations for the Primary Care department. - Assists in other duties as requested, including data assimilation for VA reports, quality assurance programs, or others as determined by the Chief of Primary Care or Chief of Staff. - Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the Primary Care Department.

Requirements

- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. - Completion of residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. - Proficiency in spoken and written English. - Primary Care and/or Internal Medicine experience preferred.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Pay

Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases, paid time off, traditional federal pension, federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance, federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care, and possible $1,000 per year reimbursement for CME.
