Physician - Primary Care

About the role

The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System is seeking a Primary Care Physician. This position is assigned under the Primary Care Service Line and is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver primary care to patients enrolled in the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System.
• Manage a panel of patients as a primary care provider in the outpatient setting.
• Supervise or collaborate with mid-level providers as assigned.
• Provide clinical oversight and review the care provided by mid-level practitioners.
• Ensure timely documentation and quality of care in accordance with departmental policies.
• Work within established privileges at all times, unless an emergency necessitates otherwise.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Medical Degree: Must have obtained a degree in medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools include those accredited by the LCME or those approved by COCA.
• License: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Experience: Two years of primary care/family medicine experience preferred.
