Physician - Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Requirements

• Successful completion of an internship and residency program (corresponding to the specialty required) approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association.
• At least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (e.g., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an accredited hospital or institution).
• Board Certified or Board Eligible through American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• At least two years of experience providing direct patient care in a clinical setting within the past five years with privileges in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
• A current, valid, unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
• DEA registration number (required prior to performing on this contract).
• U.S. citizenship.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
• Physical capability to stand and/or sit for extended periods and perform all required services.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert-level clinical care in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), including evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
• Examine and assess patients, developing and managing comprehensive, long-term rehabilitation programs.
• Evaluate imaging studies and prescribe appropriate treatments, including alternative and complementary medicine, physical rehabilitation, and eye/ear/speech rehabilitation.
• Develop an interdisciplinary approach to maximize knowledge advancement in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-hospitalization (PH) care for patient rehabilitation.
• Serve as an expert in PM&R, prescribing physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, neuropsychology evaluations, and social work services.
• Order radiology and laboratory tests, make diagnoses, and prescribe/direct rehabilitation treatments, including drugs and dietary care.
• Perform and interpret a full range of electrophysiology studies (e.g., Electromyography (EMG), Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV), Repetitive Stimulation Studies (RSS)).
• Perform prosthetics, orthotics, and rehabilitation equipment evaluations and prescriptions.
• Teach and provide consultation to a healthcare team comprised of physicians, medical professionals, and ancillary staff.
• Complete training and maintain competency in MHS Genesis, Dragon dictation software, and Microsoft Office programs.
• Comply with regulatory, Military Treatment Facility (MTF), and Joint Commission quality inspection, peer review, and utilization management requirements.
• Prepare documentation meeting or exceeding MTF standards, including timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature, using only DoD-approved abbreviations.
• Document and close notes in MHS Genesis within three business days of patient encounters.
• Respond to beneficiary messages in the MHS Genesis secure portal within one business day.

Schedule

Work schedule is between 0600 - 1800, with typical clinic hours from 0700 - 1600, depending on location. During planned facility closures (e.g., training, holidays, family down days), compensation is for actual hours worked. If the clinic is closed and the employee cannot work, they must use leave or take leave without pay (LWOP) without penalty.
