Physician (Medical Director) - Primary Care

About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Function in Primary Care Service
  • Provide comprehensive and compassionate care for "those who served"
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Input into projects pertaining to the development of the clinic
  • Comprehensive primary care services to a defined panel of patients
  • History taking, physical examination, ordering laboratories and diagnostic studies, diagnosis and formulation of treatment plans
  • Overseeing clinic operations and supervising multiple attending providers
  • Leader of a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT)
  • Direct care for Veterans enrolled in Primary Care
  • Assist in patient care or administrative duties at the main hospital or at another site
  • Provide clinical examination, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic diseases, preventive care, and coordination of care
  • Referral to specialists when necessary
  • Monitor PACT teamlet performance
  • Outstanding customer service
  • Assist patient advocate and administration in resolving patient concerns and inquiries
  • Exercise medical decision-making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services
  • Excellent communication skills and relations with staff and community
  • Serve as a member of a larger multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
  • Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
  • At least two years of primary care experience
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical examination
  • Pass seasonal influenza vaccination program

Qualifications

  • Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship, Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine, Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia, Residency Training
  • Additional Requirements: Proficiency in spoken and written English, Physical Requirements
