About the role

This position is restricted to U.S. citizens and requires a Common Access Card (CAC) along with the ability to pass the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) clearance process to acquire a CAC. On-site duties are required at one of the following MEPS locations: Seattle, WA; El Paso, TX; Richmond, VA; San Diego, CA; New York City, NY; Amarillo, TX; Springfield, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with OSHA, Privacy Act, DoD, USMEPCOM, and applicable service regulations.
  • Conducts thorough medical record reviews, histories, and physical examinations per Department of Defense standards; evaluates lab results, ensures accurate profiling, and coordinates with consultants and Service waiver authorities.
  • Evaluates diagnostic test results to identify potential disqualifying conditions.
  • Performs comprehensive in-person medical histories for applicants who have completed the prescreening process and received authorization to proceed.
  • Assesses applicants for injuries, deformities, defects, and disorders across all body systems, including dental, psychiatric, and behavioral, and conducts a standardized orthopedic-neurological exam.
  • Determines the need for further physical examination of identified problem areas.
  • Directly informs applicants of abnormal findings through personal consultation or written communication.
  • Conveys updates to medical staff for entry into the USMEPCOM-specific applicant database.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination based on a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as non-sensitive and requires a personnel security investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not replace BLS completion.
  • Must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • A one-year supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of onboarding and/or as required.
  • Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) and occasional Saturday work may be required.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a U.S. or Canadian school accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must demonstrate education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited U.S. schools, evidenced by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
  • Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
  • After obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, must have at least one year of supervised clinical experience, such as a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an accredited hospital or institution.
  • Must have 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position or equivalent experience and training.
  • Preference given to candidates with a CAC or PIV card.
  • Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in foreign education interpretation and deemed equivalent to an accredited U.S. education program, or full credit must be given for courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Pay

Starting salary range for Physician: $100/hr – $120/hr, commensurate with experience.
