About the Role
Humana's Primary Care Organization is one of the largest and fastest-growing value-based care, senior-focused primary care providers in the country, operating over 400 centers across 15 states under the CenterWell and Conviva brands. The Physician Lead serves as a clinician handling a variety of health-related problems, reporting directly to the Market CMO and working in-person at Kansas City outpatient clinics. This role splits time between direct patient care (60%) and administrative responsibilities (40%) related to clinical oversight.
Responsibilities
- Work with Market CMO and operational leadership to grow the model of care, design profit improvement projects, and contribute to strategic initiatives.
- Oversee clinicians, including Physicians, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP), and Physician Assistants (PA), by:
- Maintaining collaborative/supervisory agreements per state protocols.
- Assisting with panel management and providing direct education on clinical protocols, disease prevalence, and quality care.
- Guiding clinicians on patient terminations in collaboration with compliance.
- Supporting clinicians with schedule templates, coverage, daily issues, behavioral concerns, PTO management, CME time/reimbursement, and performance reviews.
- Resolving inquiries, requests, and complaints from clinical staff and patients.
- Organizing team-building activities.
- Conduct ongoing chart reviews/audits of clinical staff to ensure quality care and identify education/coaching opportunities.
- Identify trends and opportunities in pharmacy use to manage Part D per Member per Month (PMPM) costs while maintaining high-quality care.
- Optimize the network of preferred specialists to improve care delivery and cost-saving opportunities.
- Make decisions to identify and mitigate complex technical and operational problems within clinics.
- Manage financial and operational performance of assigned clinics.
- Participate in provider committees (e.g., Technology Governance, EMR Optimization), shared service strategy meetings, and quality improvement programs.
- Assist in recruiting and interviewing potential clinical staff.
- Engage in patient retention, marketing activities, and community representation in media/press.
- Other responsibilities as directed by the Market CMO.
Requirements
- MD or DO degree from an accredited university.
- 8+ years of technical experience.
- 2+ years of project leadership experience.
- Licensure in the state of practice.
- Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Geriatric Medicine.
- If hired, TB screening will be required.
Pay
The starting base pay range for this full-time (40 hours per week) position is $292,000 - $341,500 per year, with variations based on geographic location and individual qualifications. This role is eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on company and/or individual performance.
